Ashford and Tenterden boast some of the finest windmills - you can even grind your own corn at Willesborough Windmill.

Iconic landmarks; creaking, swirling sails - the majestic windmills dotting the landscape around Ashford and Tenterden simply shouldn't be missed.  At Ashford's Willesborough Windmill, a red-brick base is crowned by a white-wood cone; slatted 'sweeps' or sails - whir gracefully around.  Enjoy tea and home-made cakes in Mrs Cobbs' Kitchen.  You can even grind your own flour on a quern stone before buying a bag of Willesborough's finest to get baking at home.

There's more historic sustainable power on display at Woodchurch Windmill.  this chalk-white Kentish smock mill sits proudly above the village, offering extensive marshland views.    Woodchurch Windmill is open in the afternoons on summer Sundays (and Bank Holidays), plus Saturdays in July and August too.

In delightful Stocks Windmill the village of Wittersham can claim Kent's tallest post mill - these are the earliest type of European mills.  Built in 1781, its white weatherboarding perches on top of a tarred brick base.
